Nataniėl's Dark Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dates, chopped
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 spoons butter
  • ½ cup castor sugar (regular sugar works just as wel...)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 3 figs, chopped

Sinful Sauce (and I quote...)

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 3 spoons butter
  • 1 cup fresh cream
  • 2 spoons brandy

Method

  1. Put dates & bicarbonate of soda in a bowl and add the boling water.
  2. Whip butter & sugar till light.
  3. Whip in eggs one by one.
  4. Fold flour into egg mixture.
  5. Mix in dates and figs.
  6. Pour mixture into a greased cake tin & bake at 180°C (350°F) for 50-60 minutes.
  7. Make sauce: Heat sugar & butter in a pan until the sugar is melted.
  8. Remove from heat& mix in cream & brandy.
  9. Leave baked dessert to sligthly cool & put on a plate.
  10. Pour ¼ of the sauce over the dessert.
  11. Cut dessert like cake & serve with the remainder of the sauce.
